Job Description: Data Science Director
Position Overview:
The Data Science Director is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the data science function within the Information Technology (IT) department. The individual in this position will lead a team of data scientists, driving the development and implementation of data-driven strategies, solutions, and models to support business objectives. The Data Science Director will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for leveraging data and analytics to optimize business processes and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead the data science team in developing and executing data-driven strategies, models, and algorithms to drive business insights and support decision-making processes.
2. Collaborate closely with business stakeholders to understand their requirements and translate them into data science projects and initiatives.
3. Design and implement data analysis methodologies, predictive models, and machine learning algorithms to solve complex business problems and drive innovation.
4. Drive the development and maintenance of data infrastructure, data management processes, and data quality standards to ensure accurate and reliable data.
5. Stay updated with the latest industry trends, tools, and technologies related to data science and machine learning and provide recommendations for their application in the organization.
6. Manage and mentor a team of data scientists, providing guidance, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities.
7. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, analytics, and business units, to identify and prioritize data science initiatives aligned with business goals.
8. Present findings, insights, and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field. A Master's or Ph.D. degree in a relevant discipline is highly desirable.
2. Proven experience (X years) in a leadership role within data science, preferably in a large-scale enterprise environment.
3. Strong background in statistical analysis, data modeling, machine learning, and predictive modeling techniques.
4. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Java, and experience with data manipulation and analysis using SQL.
5. Solid understanding of data visualization techniques and tools, such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar.
6. In-depth knowledge of data engineering principles, data mining, and data preprocessing techniques.
7. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think strategically and drive innovative solutions.
8. Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
9. Experience in leading and managing a team of data scientists, providing mentorship, guidance, and fostering a collaborative work environment.
10. Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and delivering high-quality results within tight deadlines.
